About Us

On the first Sunday in April 1953, our church was organized as The Friendly

Community Church under the pastorate of our late founders Bishop R.T. Jones Sr.

and Mother R.T. Jones Sr. The ministry was later renamed Christian Tabernacle

Friendly Community Church of God in Christ and experienced massive growth.

Since the days of our small, humble beginnings, and thrilling years of spiritual

fellowship, the Lord has called our founder, Bishop R.T. Jones Sr., home to rest.

Upon his passing in 1990, the church appointed Bishop R.T. Jones Jr. as Senior

Pastor, a position he would faithfully serve for 26 years. Upon the transition of

Mother R.T. Jones Sr. in 2005, Bishop Jones renamed the church Jones Memorial

Community Church of God in Christ. 

In 2016, Bishop R.T. Jones Jr., after much prayer appointed Elder J. Christopher

Barmore as Senior Pastor. Since this appointment, the church has experienced

evident spiritual and numeric growth; today is an exciting day in the ministry of

the church. In 2018, Pastor Barmore renamed the church Christian Tabernacle

Church of Philadelphia (COGIC) to commemorate the rich legacy of this ministry.

In December of 2021, under the leadership of Pastor Barmore, the Christian

Tabernacle church was able to acquire a new facility in the heart of North

Philadelphia after 3 years of displacement. Christian Tabernacle presently exists as

a lighthouse to a darkened world. With over 70 years of continued service, our

doors are opened and swinging on hinges of love. We are a Pentecostal, full

gospel, charismatic church, which is based on the word of God. Our mission is to

become the example of Christ’s love towards every person we encounter.
